We have the exact same CAT Mini Machines set and Duplo Lego Cars set. I agree that they are awesome!!! All three are good not only for two year olds, but 3, 4, 5, and even older depending on the boy and if they are playing with a younger sibling etc. Two books I would recommend are: Fireman Small by Wong Herbert Yee and How Rocket Learned to Read by Tad Hills (great for either boys or girls).
