Honey Beer Bread

We had one lone bottle of beer in the refrigerator. Leftover from who knows when…possibly from when we moved into our house. Neither of us are big beer drinkers, and I’ve been slowly using up our small suppy on a variety of beer bread recipes. I’m glad I found this recipe for the last bottle, because it was the best yet. Soft and slightly sweet, with a crispy buttery crust. It was great hot out of the oven last night – perfect for a late night snack. But it might have been even better for lunch today – toasted, with a little extra butter. Good enough for Mike to rate it a 3.75. This is my new go-to beer bread recipe. Good enough that I might even buy beer solely for the purpose of making this bread. 🙂

Honey Beer Bread

Ingredients:

3 cups all-purpose flour
2 Tbsp. sugar
1 Tbsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
2 Tbsp. honey
1 bottle (12 ounces) beer
4 Tbsp. (half stick) butter, melted

Directions:

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a 9″ x 5″ x 3″ inch loaf pan.

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. Using a wooden spoon, stir the beer and honey into the dry ingredients until just mixed. Pour half the melted butter into the loaf pan. Then spoon the batter into the pan, and pour the rest of the butter on top of the batter. Bake for 50 to 60 minutes, until top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean. Makes 1 loaf. Best if served immediately, although leftovers taste great toasted!

  1. I make bread using beer too! It tastes so good.

  2. so, i guess we're all forgetting about the time I nearly died when a drunk driver with a .08 BAC and pre-sliced loaf of bread on the passenger seat slammed into my car?

  3. I'm not sure you understand the meaning of "anonymous".

  4. That is excellent. I am very impressed by your baking skills. That might be nice with some sliced avocado or coconut butter spread.

  5. This looks so good!

  6. Oh! Honey and beer? Sounds and looks delicious…would love to give a try 🙂

  7. "Best if served immediately, although leftovers taste great toasted!"

i thought the beer was for the bread???

  8. Yum! I'm going to have to try this!

  9. Would it be good to use Guinness? That is all I have.

  10. Anonymous – unfortunately, I have no idea. I don't know anything about beer. I'd imagine you could use anything though. I've heard that you can even use root beer! You also might be able to find an answer on google. 🙂

  11. We always use pop in our beer bread. I'm a big fan of Coke in it and we also use Mt. Dew. Really, the possibilities are endless w/ all the flavors of pop there are! Plus you can add in any fruit/nut/chocolate chips/etc.

  12. Lura – I didn't realize you could use pop instead of beer! Thanks for telling me. We hardly ever have beer on hand, so I'm excited to try this recipe with pop! I bet cream soda or root beer would be delicious.

  13. If you really want a sweet treat, try this with CREAM SODA. I haven't made the from-scratch variety but I use Cream Soda in the Tastefully Simple Beer Bread mix. I'm sure homemade would taste even better!

  14. Doh! Should have read the comments first…

  15. Taralynn819 – Actually I'd forgotten about the suggestion to use cream soda, so thanks so much for your comment! We never buy beer, so I haven't made this bread in forever. I can't wait to try it with cream soda now that you've reminded me!

  16. hey it's beer bread…not pop bread. The alchohol evaporates as it bakes, so if you are worried about getting drunk off of the bread-don't! Though, if you make it right, you could worry about hordes of admirers that all want you to bake for them!

  17. This looks so yummy. I love beer bread. Just so you know, when you click on the link for this recipe in your index, it goes to your browned butter blueberry muffins (which also look very tasty).
