Peanut Butter Dough Balls

Peanut Butter Dough Balls

Day 4 of the 12 Days of Christmas Treats

These dough balls may not look like much. They’re not as cute as peppermint meltaways, and they don’t seem as festive as mint chocolate puddles. But don’t let their humble look deceive you. These peanut butter dough balls are wonderful. I got the recipe from Mama Pea‘s blog, which is one of my favorites! She was trying to replicate Annie The Baker‘s dough balls which I’ve heard wonderful things about. I took her recipe and made some minor tweaks based on what I had in the house.

Peanut Butter Dough Balls

The result is a peanut butter chocolate chip cookie that tastes more like cookie dough thanΒ a baked cookie.Β  They don’t flatten in the oven, retaining the shape of a ball instead. The inside is soft and slightly crumbly, and a little gooey, like cookie dough. It’s hard to explain, but they have a wonderful texture. Next time I plan to make them even better (and cuter!) by drizzling them with a little melted chocolate…yum!

If you’re looking for a fun new take on chocolate chip cookies, give these a try. They’d make a great new tradition for Christmas!

Peanut Butter Dough Balls

P.S. You can see all of my Christmas treat recipes from over the years at this Christmas Cookies tag. Enjoy! And, as always, let me know if you try any and how you liked them.

Peanut Butter Cookie Dough Balls

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup peanut butter
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 3/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 cup cake flour
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup chocolate chips

Directions:

  1. Beat butter, peanut butter, sugars and vanilla in the bowl of a stand mixer until fully incorporated. In a separate bowl, combine baking powder, baking soda, salt and flours.
  2. Slowly add the flour mixture to the mixer bowl and mix until a dough forms. Stir in the chocolate chips.
  3. Chill for 30 minutes.
  4. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Scoop dough with a mini ice cream scoop, roll into a ball and place on a cookie sheet. Bake for 10-12 minutes. They’ll still be soft and look much like they did going in, but don’t overbake. The bottoms will be very lightly browned. Let the dough balls rest on the pan for a minute before transferring to a cooling rack to cool completely.

  6. A fully baked peanut butter cookie that tastes just like cookie dough is about as close to Heaven as you can get! These may make it into my holiday baking this weekend!!

  7. This whole trend of dough balls is catching up around the blogs! I mean everyone ( insane foodies like us) eat raw cookie dough (or is it just me?) and if its eatable why not just make them tht way:D This sounds like a great idea.

  8. Another perfect creation πŸ™‚

  9. You have done my favorite kind of cookie!! I love, love, love any cookie with peanut butter.

  14. I know a certain husband who will love these! Thank you!

  15. I made these today…but thought they looked a little to plain for Christmas. I decided to drizzle a little chocolate over them. Now they look great (and already taste great). Thanks for the recipe.

  16. This really sounds like a great version of a peanut butter cookie. I like the idea of eating something that's gooey like cookie dough, but is still cooked so you don't worry about eating it. By the way, I'm holding a giveaway on my blog for Orglamix Organic makeup and you're welcome to come by and enter. http://sweet-as-sugar-cookies.blogspot.com/2010/12/orglamix-organic-mineral-makeup-review.html

  17. Oh, those looks so yummy! My cookie-dough loving family would go nuts for these! πŸ™‚

  20. Mmmm..in my opinion these would be better than regular cookies, being that I am always tempted to just eat the dough! πŸ˜‰

  21. dkal85 – I'm so glad you liked these! Drizzling with chocolate sounds like a great idea. Thanks for stopping back to let me know how they turned out πŸ™‚

  22. So, I just made these, but mine turned out looking like a regular peanut butter cookie (who knows what I did!) but with the most amazing texture!

  23. Courtney – I'm so glad you liked them! I'm not sure why yours turned out flatter. Did you chill the dough? So glad the texture was still amazing though! πŸ™‚

  24. My dough came out very crumbly. What did I do wrong? I have them in the fridge chilling right now. Any suggestions?

  25. Shawn – If it's too crumbly to form into a ball, go ahead and add in some extra peanut butter, maybe a tablespoon to start with, or some milk. Just add until it's able to be formed into a ball. The texture can depend a lot on the type of peanut butter you use. If you get this reply soon, I'd go ahead and add it before you chill the dough – it will be much harder to mix in once the dough is chilled. Good luck!

  26. Megan, thanks for the quick response. Even though I had the crumbly dough in the fridge chilled, it was no match for my artisan kitchen aid mixer. Added some more peanut butter and a little milk and it became actual cookie dough! Can't wait to put them in the over. Many thanks.

  27. I saw these on Mama Pea's blog, and have been meaning to make them. Thanks for the reminder! Yours look perrrrfect :).

  28. These sound SO good. I LOVE under cooking cookies sometimes just to have that cookie dough center. These are perfect to me!

  29. I made these last week and they were SO GOOD! I can't wait to make them again.

  30. Do you know how many cookies this yields approx? πŸ˜€ I'm hoping to make them this weekend!!

  31. I made these little jewels yesterday- I was eager to try one and promptly ate 4 or was that 5. So good- and so fast and easy- Thanks Megan

  32. Tiffany – I'm so glad you liked these! Thanks so much for stopping back to let me know πŸ™‚

Legs – I'm probably way too late on this reply – I'm sorry! I didn't actually pay attention to how many this yields…maybe 3 dozen? It'll depend on how big you make the dough balls, but that's my guess. Did you make them? How many did you get out of the recipe?

Anonymous – I had the exact same problem when I made them! Have you frozen any? I eat them straight out of the freezer πŸ™‚

  33. Thanks so much for the feedback, my dough was very crumbly like Shawn's but a splash of milk and a little extra PB did the trick. I did add it before the refrig so it was really easy. Also, I decided to use extra halloween candy and chop it up (reeses, twix and kit kat) instead of chocolate chips, so good!

  34. Jen – I”m so glad they turned out well! Thanks for taking the time to stop back and let me know πŸ™‚ Halloween candy in these sounds absolutely incredible! I'm trying that next time with reese's!

  35. Megan I loved these! Mine were also a bit to crumbly but adding the extra peanut butter made them perfect. I just posted about them tonight. Thanks again!

  36. Aimee – I'm so glad you liked these! I really should update the recipe to include a little more peanut butter. Thanks for the feedback! πŸ™‚

  37. I just stumbled across your blog and I must say… I'm going home after class and making these tonight because that's how amazing they look!

  38. We did these with my little brother and they were just amazing (and very quick and easy to do) ! Thanks so much for share with us such great recipes.
