Broccoli Salad

Broccoli Salad

I’ve had this broccoli salad recipe for years, and I’m not sure how it’s never made it on the blog before now.Β  I’m not even sure where I got the recipe from at this point, but I do remember making it over and over when I first found it. It was my first year out of college and I was just learning to like cooking. This was one of my favorite recipes to make for get togethers. It’s very easy to make, takes relatively few ingredients, and it’s perfect for potlucks and picnics.Β  Everyone always loved this recipe, and I felt like a gourmet cook, when really all I’d done was chop and mix – perfect! If I was on top of things, I would have shared this recipe before Labor Day so you could make it for your cook-out,Β sorry for the bad timing!Β  According to my CSA, however, broccoli is still in season around here, so there’s still time to give this recipe a try! πŸ™‚

  5. I love broccoli salad! Maybe I’ll make a batch for my daughter’s birthday party. I need some quick easy salads πŸ™‚

  6. This is my go to salad if I need to bring something to an event and don’t have time to try something new. I like to add raisins and/or dried cranberries, and sunflower seeds or pepitas…whatever I have on hand. Just made it last weekend!

  7. My grandmother would make this recipe all the time. Delicious!

  8. You know, I have seen this salad so many times, at potlucks and picnice, but I do not have a recipe for it! Thanks for posting this classic – I love it!

  9. We have 2 broccoli lovers in the house- me and my 4 year old. We could make a good dent in that bowl πŸ˜‰

  10. I love salads like this one πŸ™‚ I think I have my own broccoli salad recipe that I’ve had forever too. They are the best!

  11. Yum! This is the same recipe I use and it’s always delicious!

  12. I love broccoli and this is such a lovely idea for a salad πŸ™‚

  13. This looks really tasty! I love broccoli but haven’t been serving it enough lately. Do you think this would be good without including the sugar? Maybe subbing some salt & pepper instead?

    • I’ve never tried it without sugar, but it would be worth a shot. You mix up the dressing separately before pouring it over the broccoli mixture, so if you didn’t like the taste of the dressing on its own, you could still add in a little sugar if you wanted. if you try it, let me know how it turns out! πŸ™‚

  14. would love to see a print button for the recipes πŸ™‚

    • There is one! Look at the top of the recipe (not the top of the blog post) and you’ll see the print button all the way to the right of the recipe name. Let me know if you still can’t see it. πŸ™‚

  15. Thanks for the recipe. I can’t have sugar. Can I substitute wit Agave Nectar you think?

  16. THis looks and sounds so yummy! I Love broccoli..one of the few veggies I enjoy. Can’t wait to try it, thanks for the recipe πŸ˜€

  17. This is very similar to a recipe from Southern Living. Maybe that’s where you got it? Our family has our own broccoli salad. It’s the similar to this one —- just omit the vinegar and cheese and add halved cherry tomatoes instead. Love it.

    • Thanks! I’ve never had a Southern Living subscription, but maybe I saw it linked online somewhere? Cherry tomatoes sound like a great addition!

  18. I know this comment is late in coming, but there’s no reason why agave nectar wouldn’t work as a sub for sugar. I used to use sugar substitutes all the time in my cole slaw recipes. Just use far less nectar than sugar, as it should be much, much sweeter. Just start out with a small amount and add to taste until it’s right.

This recipe looks scrumptious. It was included in your Memorial Day email and it stood out from the rest, can’t wait to try it! Love your blog!

  19. I left out the sugar and it was great!! My kids hate broccoli and all three took seconds!! πŸ™‚
I like the idea of adding sunflower seeds or cranberries. Next time!

  20. The deli where I used to work makes their broccoli salad much like this but we added cauliflower and green or red pepper as well and our dressing had much more sugar than that! People come from miles around for the broccoli salad and the cole slaw (which, BTW uses the same dressing!)

  22. I make this a lot – I add in dried cranberries (Craisins) and sunflower seeds, chopped red pepper. I prefer the taste of apple cider vinegar. I can cut out the bacon, and use a minimum of mayo and cheese. I’m making a batch just for me – yes! I will eat it for days!
